Another increase in applications to UK medical schools

Data released recently from UCAS has shown another increase in applications to study medicine in the UK. On top of the unprecedented increases for 2021, application numbers are up again in 2022. In fact, the increase in applications over the past five years is truly staggering. Applications for enrolment in September 2022 (29710) are up 54% on the equivalent numbers in 2017 (19210). The picture is similar for international fee-paying students with a 44% increase across the same period. With no equivalent increase in the number of seats available it is more competitive than ever to secure a seat to study medicine in the UK.

Given this competitive back-drop we are strongly advising aspiring doctors to develop a back-up strategy now. Several the opportunities outside of UCAS have also become increasingly popular and application deadlines have been shortening in recent years.
