Charles University Third Faculty of Medicine 2019 Entrance Exam

Students discussed ethical situations in the interview for the Third Faculty of Medicine.

Medical Doorway continued our long weekend of exams with our entrance exam for Charles University Third Faculty of Medicine. The Third Faculty of Medicine joined the Medical Doorway family in 2018. This was to ensure students enjoyed a reliable and professional service for their application, selection and enrolment.

The Third Faculty of Medicine at Charles University has a unique approach to education compared to other medical faculties. It follows a more problem orientated philosophy in its curriculum. This innovative design integrates theory to clinical cases earlier than is found in the more numerous traditional programmes.

The University of Westminster in London was again our venue of choice for this examination. In addition to the UK students, we welcomed students from Nigeria, Germany, Ireland and Greece. Over twenty students sat this exam which was in addition to our students who gained automatic admission on the basis of their high A-level results from 2018.

Biochemistry Professor Jana Fauknerová Matějčková and physiologist Professor Miloslav Franěk travelled from the Third Faculty of Medicine to London for this exam. Medical Doorway’s managing director (Ben Ambrose) was on hand to support the students, parents and the visiting examiners.

The examination was multiple-choice comprising Biology, Chemistry and a choice of Maths or Physics. Students then progressed to an interview which discussed a specific clinical topic and posed some ethical dilemmas for them to grapple with. Students who successfully negotiated the exam and interview were informed on the day. They are now looking forward to commencing their studies in September of 2019.

This was our first examination for the Third Faculty, but both the faculty and Medial Doorway will be working together to help more students fulfil their study aspirations in Prague.

The next opportunity for enrol at Third Faculty of Medicine will be September 2020. Applicants who achieve their A-levels in 2019 with an AAB (Biology, Chemistry and Maths or Physics) can gain admission without the entrance exam. For those that need to sit the exam we expect the date to be published by October in time for our 2019 Open Day at the Royal Society of Medicine.
