MD-Expo Manchester and London 2017

Building on the success of last year’s event, MD-Expo 2017 brought more students face to face with more universities. Over nine hundred registrations were made to the two events ensuring a busy but rewarding weekend for all. Unlike days organised by fee charging agencies, MD-Expo brought students, parents and universities together. Guests were able to ask questions to university representatives, the Medical Doorway team and also NHS doctors who have qualified from our partner universities.

We were proud to have seven of Europe’s most popular universities in attendance. Saturday 11th November found us at the Manchester Conference Centre. The Expo moved to London’s Royal Society of Medicine on Sunday 12th November.

Charles University, Palacky University and Masaryk University travelled from the Czech Republic to talk about their medicine and dentistry programmes. Maris Ginters represented Riga Stradins University (Latvia), with some students starting their application process on the day. Medical Doorway’s exclusive partner in Bulgaria, Pleven Medical University, were also in attendance.

For the first time Poznan University of Medical Sciences participated in MD-Expo. Poznan offers a four year grade entry medicine programme making this a particular popular university. Also attending for the first time was Queen Mary University of London. Their attendance was specific for their MBBS Malta. The first Medical Doorway studies enrolled in 2017 and applications for 2018 Malta programme are already being received.

In addition to being able to speak with universities, visitors had the chance to listen to a variety of expert talks. Presentations from the universities and Medical Doorway were well received but the most popular was from Dr Suhib Tahir. Suhib, a graduate of Charles University First Faculty of Medicine, spoke to students and parents about his six-year experience being an international medical student. His experience in the transition from Czech Republic to a career at Papworth and Addenbrooke’s Hospitals in Cambridge underlined the opportunities available for high calibre graduates. Dr Natasha Mazumder (Masaryk University) was also available to provide advice on her journey from Masaryk University to speciality paediatrics training.

MD-Expo 2018 in Manchester and The Royal Society of Medicine in London is already booked for the weekend of 3rd and 4th November 2018.
