Pleven Medical University 2017 Enrolment

Medical Doorway were once again supporting a large cohort of medical students enrolling at Medical University Pleven. This year, the diversity of the students we assisted has been larger than ever. Students from the UK, Ireland, Italy, Zimbabwe, Greece, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and India joined over four hundred existing Medical Doorway students studying medicine at Pleven.

After collecting students and their guests at Sofia airport, everyone settled into their pre-arranged accommodation or Hotel Rostov. On Sunday 29th January, Medical Doorway hosted our annual welcome reception. Over one hundred guests attended this event which is the highlight of the arrival weekend. Guests of honour Professor Slavcho Tomov (Rector of MU-Pleven) and Lyubov Kostova (Director of the British Council in Sofia) formally invited the students and guests to Bulgaria.

Students got the chance to sample traditional Bulgaria cuisine and learn more about the local culture and customs. A traditional Bulgarian dance troupe performed an example of northern Bulgarian dancing. To finish the evening off everyone got the chance to learn the steps themselves.

The Medical Doorway team have been assisting students at Pleven Medical University since 2011 and have an exclusive agreement. The english language medicine programme at Pleven was the first of its kind in Bulgaria.

Medical University Pleven is currently expanding its clinical practice with St Marina Hospital due to become a University Hospital. Ben Ambrose was shown around the state of the art clinical facility by Professor Tomov. From this year, students will be able to learn from some Bulgaria’s leading surgeons in obstetric gynaecology.
