UCAS Medicine Applications in 2021 are up 21%

Online exams in 2021

In 2021 all our entrance exams will be held online

With the announcement that the 2021 A-level exams have been cancelled a new wave of uncertainly is upon all medical applicants. This is further complicated by the large number of students who are applying from the 2020 graduating year.

Data from UCAS shows there have been 4,930 more applications to study medicine in 2021 compared to 2020. This represents a 21% increase in the number of applications and is unprecedented in what is already a highly competitive application environment. With only 7500 est. seats available, this increase in itself accounts for 66% of medicine seats in the UK. The data shows that in 2021 there were a total of 28690 applicants compared to 23,710 in 2020. It has never been more competitive to secure a place at medical school in the UK than at any time in the past ten years. As a result, it is time and secure a firm or insurance option to enrol at medical school in September/October 2021.

Be certain of your seat at medical school

Medical Doorway is here to help you gain some certainty in this uncertain time. This could be:

  1. Securing a back-up to your UCAS application
  2. Ensuring you have a seat if none of your UCAS applications have been successful
  3. Registering you for entrance exams so you can gain an early unconditional offer
  4. Helping you secure entry to an accredited graduate-entry medicine degree

In 2021 all our entrance exams are being held online. This means you can secure an unconditional offer to enrol in September prior to release of A-level results. This includes Charles University First Faculty of Medicine and Masaryk University. For universities that don’t utilise entrance exams, such as the University of Nicosia, conditional offers are made at ABB. If you are a non-UK student there is still time to apply for a UK medical degree at Brunel University in London; partial scholarships are available.

For many students, access to funding is tight. This is especially the case with the economic knock-on effects of the pandemic. It is however possible to study medicine in Europe at state accredited medical schools for less than £3300 per year.

It is always better to act early and doing so ensures you have more medical school options. Get in touch with Medical Doorway at [email protected] and find out what opportunities there for you.
