Charles University’s First Faculty of Medicine, one of the most respected medical schools in Europe, has recently announced a significant policy change aimed at broadening access to medical education. For the 2025/26 entry, the faculty can exempt university graduates from the traditional multiple-choice entrance exam. This new policy is expected to make medical education more accessible to individuals who already possess a higher education degree. Graduates of an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s study programme in countries of the EU or OECD are eligible for exemption.

This move reflects a growing trend to offer more flexible pathways for students who have demonstrated their academic ability. By removing the entrance exam requirement for university graduates, the First Faculty of Medicine is acknowledging that those with a higher education background have already proven their academic skills. Identifying that these applicants are well-equipped to succeed in the rigorous medical/dental programmes rewards them for their dedication.
Applicants who have completed a university degree will still need to meet other criteria. A strong academic record, proficiency in English and undergoing the online MMI, are all required. Applicants will still need to pay the university application fee but no exam fee. This change opens doors for graduates to access one of the world’s most famous medical schools. This policy is going to particularly suit those from the USA which have taken a pre-med degree. These applicants can also utilise the US Federal Loan scheme to fund their students at First Faculty of Medicine. In addition, applicants, regardless of nationality, with a UK degree in Clinical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Medical Science etc. are sure to benefit.
