ACPHS New York & WAUSM

The ACPHS and WAUSM pathway gives school leavers a direct six-year route towards a US medical career without first completing a separate pre-med degree. Medical Doorway supports applicants throughout this combined programme free of charge.

The pathway brings together Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in New York, founded in 1881, and Western Atlantic University School of Medicine in the Bahamas. Each institution contributes a distinct stage of the academic and clinical journey.

Students spend the first two years—six terms—in Albany and earn a BSc in Biomedical Science. Year three continues in Albany from September to December before students transfer to WAUSM in January; year four is based in the Bahamas. The final two years comprise core and advanced clinical placements at US partner hospitals. Preparation for the USMLE and Residency Match runs throughout, and graduates receive both the ACPHS bachelor’s degree and a WAUSM MD.

The first stage is based at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in New York State. Students then move to the Western Atlantic University School of Medicine campus in the Bahamas, just off Florida’s east coast, before completing their clinical years in the United States.

Applicants can enter directly from school with A-levels, the IB, CBSE or equivalent qualifications. Medical Doorway helps candidates understand the multi-stage route and supports the application from initial assessment onwards without charging a service fee.
