St. George’s University

St George’s University offers several routes into an international medical education from its Caribbean campus in Grenada. Its community brings together students and academics from more than 140 countries, with clinical training opportunities across several healthcare systems.

Established in 1977, St George’s University has grown into a major international medical school whose graduate community includes more than 16,000 doctors. Its School of Medicine is accredited by the Grenada Medical and Dental Council (GMDC). The US National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) has determined that GMDC uses standards comparable to those used to accredit medical schools in the United States.

Graduates can enter the four-year MD; students with UK A-levels or the IB can apply for the five-year route; and six- or seven-year routes serve applicants from other education systems. The first two years of the four-year MD focus on basic sciences through lectures, laboratories, small-group discussion and problem-based learning in Grenada, although the first year can be taken at Northumbria University. The final two years comprise clinical rotations, including primary care, electives and sub-internships, at partner sites in the USA, UK and Canada.

Students begin their training on a diverse Caribbean campus in Grenada. Scholarships and other financial-aid routes may be available, including awards linked to academic achievement.
