If you’re considering a dentistry degree in Georgia and hope to practise in the UK, check the registration route before committing to a course. We have spoken with students who were unclear about the steps involved after graduation.
Check the GDC requirements
A degree awarded outside the UK or EEA does not normally follow the same registration route as a recognised EEA dental qualification. Many overseas-qualified applicants need to pass the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) before applying for UK registration. Eligibility and evidence requirements should be checked directly with the General Dental Council.
A historical response to a Freedom of Information request reported on graduates of certain Georgian institutions. That response should not be treated as a current assessment of every university or individual applicant. Ask the GDC about the specific qualification you are considering.
Questions to ask before applying
- Who awards the degree, and which authority accredits the programme?
- What registration process applies in the country where you intend to work?
- What clinical training does the course provide?
- What evidence supports any claims about graduate employment?
- If you use an adviser, is their university authorisation confirmed, and are fees and refund terms available in writing?
If you are already studying
Speak to your university and the GDC before deciding whether to continue or transfer. Credit transfer is assessed by the receiving university; you should not assume that previous study will be accepted or that you can enter a later year.
Options advertised for 2025 entry
At the time of the original article, Medical Doorway was accepting applications for five-year dentistry programmes at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, with a London entrance exam on 23 August 2025, and Charles University First Faculty of Medicine, with a London exam on 26 August 2025.
