Masaryk University has announced an innovative project that will bring immeasurable benefits to medicine and dentistry students. A €33,000,000 investment to construct a clinical simulation centre will start in 2018. While the centre will involve all faculties of the university, it is being built with medicine and dentistry students in mind.

Masaryk University has one of the most impressive graduate employment rates due to direct links with NHS hospitals. This new clinical simulation centre will ensure the generic and clinical skills of Masaryk University doctors and dentists are further developed. This is a real game-changer in the development and delivery of medical and dental education in Europe.
The five-storey building will simulate a hospital environment. This will include:
- An A&E department capable of accepting ambulances.
- A helipad.
- An intensive care unit.
- Numerous operating theatres.
- A maternity unit.
- Dental offices.
- Clinical examination rooms and hospital wards.
The clinical simulation centre at Masaryk University will be completed in 2020
This unique facility will enable students to refine their diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical skills in a safe environment. While the advantages to students are clear, it is patients that will benefit the most. Masaryk University’s medical students will take what they learn in this simulation centre straight to the clinical environment.
Completion of the centre is scheduled for 2020. This means any student enrolling from September 2017 will experience this interesting facility in their journey to clinical practice.
Professor Petr Šťourač, who initiated the project, explained “The planned concept will have a major impact on the way we deliver education to our medical students”.
