Medical Doorway kicked off the 2019 Czech Republic enrolments with our new University of Ostrava students. The University of Ostrava and Medical Doorway are two years into an exclusive agreement to enable students to enrol at this THES world ranked university. The university offers aspiring doctors a unique opportunity to take their first step to a career in medicine.

Before the University of Ostrava joined the Medical Doorway network, students on a tight budget had no other option but to enrol in unranked universities peddled by student recruitment agencies. Ostrava offers students the chance to study medicine in English for only €8500 per year. This provides students an amazing opportunity to secure a medicine degree whilst not compromising on quality of facilities or education.

The city of Ostrava is a large, cosmopolitan destination. A former centre of heavy industry, the city transformed itself to be one of Europe’s best known cultural capitals. Some of Europe’s largest music festivals are held here including the famous Colours of Ostrava.

To get to this stage students first had to pass the entrance exams which were held in London in May and July. This year’s enrolment was especially diverse with students coming from the UK, Brazil, Cyprus, Greece and Nigeria. During the orientation week, students moved into the Kampus Palace accommodation. This is a high specification student residence with gym, laundrette and multiple restaurants. It is also a single tram ride away from the faculty. On Thursday 5th September the students completed all their enrolment activities at the medical faculty.

Ben Ambrose was on hand to assist students at enrolment and to ensure all our students were comfortable in Ostrava. Students applied for their student travel permits at the DPO office. On Friday 6th September Ben Ambrose helped students open their student bank accounts at Ceska Sporitelna. Following these essential tasks a trip to the Bolt Tower was on the cards. This is the highest point in Ostrava, and part at the Vitkovice complex. Lessons start in earnest on Monday 9th September where the new students will meet the Medical Doorway student who enrolled in 2018.
