Hungary is a truly amazing county with a very distinctive history, culture and language. Landlocked in central Europe, Hungary is the bridge between East and West Europe boarding Austria to the West and Romania to the East. This location has meant it has been of strategic importance for centuries.

Hungary has a long and rich history in the world of education and research, especially in the area of science and technology. Hungarian scientists and academics are responsible for some of the most commonly used object of our daily lives such as the electric motor, the telephone exchange and the ballpoint pen (invented by Lazlo Biro). Hungarians therefore take education very seriously and this can be seen in the high standards of education and training delivered in Hungarian universities. The Debrecen University, in Hungary’s second city, has been educating students since 1538 and teaching medicine in English since 1986 making it one of the most progressive and innovative universities in Europe.

Away from the classroom, you should really make the most of your time in Central Europe. Hungary’s capital Budapest is rightly considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Spend some time in the city wandering the streets and experiencing the amazing architecture, take a dip into the world famous Széchenyi Bath & Spa (the largest medicinal baths in Europe) or get yourself ready to be part of the vibrant night-time scene. Away from Budapest there are so many opportunities including Lake Hévíz (the second largest thermal lake in the world) and Hortobágy National Park. As Hungary is also part of the Schengen Area it is also easy to travel and see much more of continental Europe when you have the chance to take a break from your studies.
