Get Into Medicine UAE Expo – Dubai

On Saturday 4th November 2023, Medical Doorway launched our Get Into Medicine Expo in Dubai. This was a collaboration with GEMS Education. GEMS runs a network of over sixty schools in the MENA region, most of which are in the UAE. Twelve universities and our colleagues at The Medic Portal met face to face with aspiring medical students and their parents. Held at the flagship GEMS World Academy, over one thousand people registered for the eight-hour open event.

In addition to our UK and Mediterranean partners, who interview for admission, we were joined by our EU university colleagues. European universities differ in terms of how they select students. Instead of making conditional offers, admission is determined by entrance exam. All the EU programmes running their exams with Medical Doorway in the region were showcasing their programmes at our event. These are:

Charles University First Faculty of Medicine (Exam on 15th April)
Pavol Jozef Safarik University (Exam on 16th April)
Charles University Third Faculty of Medicine (Exam on 17th April)
Charles University Second Faculty of Medicine (Exam on 18th April)
Palacky University (Online Exam on 19th April)

During the event, students and their parents had the chance to attend seminars delivered by the universities. Furthermore, they were able to hear from a current medical student at Charles University First Faculty of Medicine in Prague.

There is a significant lack of high-quality and ethical guidance for would be medical students from the UAE and wider region.
