Medical Doorway ran the first Czech Republic entrance exams in Hong Kong from 19th – 22nd May 2018. All the exams were held at King George V School in Ho Man Tin. KGV is the oldest English language school in Hong Kong and a member of the ESF network.
On Saturday 19th May Professor Emil Rudolf started proceedings with the Charles University Hradec Kralove entrance exam. This was followed by Palacky University on Sunday 20th May. Dr Jiri Novotny traveled from Olomouc for the inaugural exam. Both of these exams comprised papers in Biology, Chemistry and the student choice of Maths or Physics. Interviews followed the exams. This gave students the opportunity to discuss their work experience and motivation for pursing a career in Medicine.
On Monday 21st May, Vice-Dean of International Affairs Professor David Sedmera invigilated the exam for Charles University First Faculty of Medicine. Following the examination, the Medical Doorway team and Professor Semdera held a meeting with Principal Mark Blackshaw. This meeting confirmed the high demand for medical education in Hong Kong and the wider East Asian region.
With rapidly growing economies the need for high quality healthcare provision is only increasing. The introduction of exams for our Czech medical faculties is providing more choices for aspiring students in Hong Kong, who also demand high ranked globally recognised universities.
Helena Melicharova (Head of International Office) from Masaryk University’s Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry ran the final examination on Tuesday 22nd May. All the universities were supported by Ben Ambrose (Managing Director) and Gill Coleman (Director of Medical Admissions).
In addition to Hong Kong residents, students traveled from New Zealand, China, Taiwan and India to sit these exams. Our university colleagues also had the chance to explore this bustling Asian city. They were able to sample traditional Dim Sum, take the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island and enjoy the world famous views from Victoria Peak.
The trip concluded with a tour of Youth Square. This is a government owned department designed to foster academic and personal development in young people. During this visit, the Medical Doorway team discussed reaching out to more students and hosting events and courses at the modern facilities in the Chi Wan area of Hong Kong island.
The Medical Doorway team are already confirmed to be in Hong Kong in September 2018 and January 2019. During these visits we will connecting with many more schools and counselling students about studying medicine and dentistry at our partner universities. Youth Square will also be providing accommodation to students who travel to Hong Kong from across the world for our exams.
The entrance exam dates for 2019 are already confirmed for 28th – 31st May. This will be preceded by a brand new examination preparation programme. If you are a student from Hong Kong or Asia you can sit four exams in four days. This provides a unique opportunity to maximise your chances whilst avoiding the need to travel to Europe multiple times.
