International medical students have faced numerous educational and practical challenges in 2020/21. Despite this we are delighted to see the contributions of Medical Doorway students being recognised at the highest level. At a ceremony on Monday 1st March 2021, one of our very own students, Prasidha Rai, was awarded the highly prestigious International Student of the Year in Bulgaria award. This award recognises the contribution of a single student to the education, welfare and development of international students in Bulgaria. There are a total of 16,280 international students in Bulgaria, meaning Prasidha’s contribution is truly exceptional. His commitment to the international student experience caught the attention of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Science and Youth.

Prasidha is the current President of AIMS in Medical University Pleven. He and the former AIMS presidents have worked hard to make MU-Pleven a welcoming destination. As such, hundreds of international students choose this innovative medical school to pursue their medical studies. The team from Medical Doorway have been working with Pleven Medical University since 2011 and we have been delighted to see many hundreds of our students enrol and graduate six-years later. MU-Pleven was the first university in Bulgaria to offer an English taught programme in Medicine.

During the ceremony, Prasidha was presented with his award by Minister of Education and Science Krassimir Valchev. He was also supported by President of Student Council Pleven, Konstantina Karakadieva.

The team at Medical Doorway, our students across the world and our network of over two-thousand higher education college counsellors send our warmest congratulations to Prasidha for this spectacular achievement. We wish him the best in his final years of education and for his future career in medicine.
