With a record increase in applications to UK medical schools, students from the UK and overseas are looking for other opportunities to secure a seat for 2021. The main concern for students is always academic standing and international recognition/reptation. That being said, ensuring affordability is of a primary concern. To secure world-class education you do often have to pay higher tuition fees but through the awarding of generous scholarships there are more opportunities for talented students.
Three of our medical school partners are currently awarding scholarships to students.
The programme offered by SGU gives students a lot of flexibility and some of the best clinical opportunities available in the world. Students can apply for the four-year graduate entry MD or the standard five-year programme. The first two-years of the five-year programme (the first one year of the four-year route) can be studied in the UK at Northumbria University. The next year would then be in the Caribbean. The final two clinical years can be completed at leading hospitals in the USA or UK. This includes The Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Kent as well as hospital centres in New York and California.
So far this year Medical Doorway students have been offered scholarships totalling $170,000 (Redacted for privacy). As we publish this article, more offer holders are currently being assessed for scholarships and bursaries.
Every year Medical Doorway applicants are successful in securing scholarships from the University of Nicosia. UNIC is arguably one of Europe’s most well-equipped medical schools. It also boasts world-class accommodation, clinical facilities and is situated on one of the prettiest island nations on the planet. Students on the six-year programme can secure a tuition fee discount of up to 20% (worth up to €4,400). In addition, graduate-entry students on the four-year programme (awarded by SGUL) can apply for a scholarship worth up to 30% (€9,000 a year).
International students who are aiming to secure a seat in the UK find scholarships hard to come by. This is not the case at our London partner, Brunel University however. The programme at Brunel is open specifically to international fee paying students and this year they are offering ten scholarships worth a total of £30,000 each. This is delivered in the way of a £6,000 annual tuition fee discount.
Medical Doorway is always working to support students to achieve their dream of a career in medicine. We work with ECFMG registered programmes across Europe recognised by the GMC with fees from only $4370 per year.
